High court strikes down gun ban
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Washington D.C.'s sweeping ban on handguns is unconstitutional. The justices voted 5-4 against the ban. At issue in District of Columbia v. Heller was whether the city's ban violated the Second Amendment right to "keep and bear arms."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, 4 Justices, who are sworn to uphold the Constitution, voted to do away with the 2nd Amendment? That was a close one!
I like this comment. Seems fair and balanced to me:
"Undoubtedly some think that the Second Amendment is outmoded in a society where our standing army is the pride of our nation, where well-trained police forces provide personal security and where gun violence is a serious problem," Scalia wrote. "That is perhaps debatable, but what is not debatable is that it is not the role of this court to pronounce the Second Amendment extinct."

Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

the democrat in me does not like guns.. I prefer to let somebody else do the killing for me, however I do think that banning guns is not the answer.. people who have no problem murdering other people could care less if the gun they kill with is illegal. The only people this law affects is law abiding citizens..
Happy 2015!

That is also where I stand on the matter.
Now, the 3rd Amendment. That is equally interesting.
'No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.'
Even back then privacy and the need to keep the government out of our private business was very important to us. I wonder what is the best way to interpret this amendment as it applies to modern-day America?

I would guess that it would be just the same. No soldier is to be forced upon us as a "guest" in our homes.
It is not something that is an issue now, but it was a huge issue back in revolutionary times and could be an issue again, if our govt. decided they wanted to keep more soldiers on our own soil and amongst our own population for "control" as England did at one time.

The only weapons I have in the house are my looks and the bayonet from my dad's 1958 Marine-issued rifle (not sure of the make/model.)
It looks exactly like this:

So if an idiot saw me comin' at them with that, they'd probably drop their gun and experience "brown trousers time."
