Recent comment made in a speech by Stephen King...
John Kerry said it, and now Stephen King has said it. The only reason for anyone to be in the military (now that we're not drafting, anyway) is because they're stupid and illiterate.I don't want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don't, then you've got, the Army, Iraq, I don't know, something like that. It's, it's not as bright. So, that's my little commercial for that.
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

Stephen King?
Yeah, they'd take HIM alright. He probably STILL eats shit and barks at
the moon too.
(I mean, how do ya think he got those bizarre ideas for his books?)
Don't start none...won't be none.
heh
My dad, member of Mensa, multiple tours of duty in Vietnam.
My mom, don't know what her IQ is, but she used to enjoy playing 3D chess with people who worked at JPL, so it can't be too low.
Bear is seriously considering going into the Seabees (kinda funny you posted about their anniversary just as Bear is looking into this, Siggs) and his standardized test scores always come back putting him in the top of the nation (top 4% last test).
All three of the above people are not only quite literate, but avid readers.
And I haven't even begun talking about my cousins or other relatives.
Hmmm...guess my family is either not the norm for the military or we show that people with a brain do enter the military.
Know what? It ticks me off that people like Kerry and King say things like this. Implying that our military is full of idiots! Oh yeah, sure! That's a great way to stand with our troops, show them we care and that we love them! Bah!

Well folks, that completes the hat trick, and (once again) proves what
can spew forth from the southbound-end-of-a-northbound-mule.

Uncle Sugar had BETTER be taking care of them!awip2062 wrote:Oh, and although my mom and dad were both in during the time of the draft, both went in on their own. So no one can say my parents went in because they had to. And yes, my mom and dad could both read BEFORE they went in.

Tribute to Courage
by James Elston
Courage is doing what is right
without having to be told;
Courage is manning up when you
know you've done something wrong;
Courage is looking the enemy in the eye
and telling them to JUST BRING IT;
Courage is having fear
but still staying strong;
Courage is facing adversary
but being able to overcome it;
Courage is leaving your family behind
to defend the country you love;
Courage is being a soldier in the greatest
Armed Forces in the world;
Thank you for this courage that lets us live free;
May God bless you and come home safely to your families.
