I've been reading about this a bit since it has also happened to me.

It's a phenomena called "night hags" (which are named for evil spirits). Whether you believe in the evil spirit causing it or just the term for the phenomena, it's pretty common.

Two poems I wrote about dreams. Don't read to much into them I deleted a few words from first one not to sound self serving. I have begun to have a complex about that.

YOU ARE WHAT YO ARE

You shall see in the
distillation
a visible vapor
with a heart of light
with a attitude so high
a great height of context
beyond ordinary circumstances
spreading out for us to dream
a creed of dynamics
and sing along tonight

UNLIMITED

Nothing more nothing less?

I can't believe you said that

Dreams flying over fields of thoughts

A timely notice of spirits sought

A mirage of navigation projecting our mirrored thoughts.

In our mind we fly thru glades of another time before time past

Finding another pass.

Another question of importance anyone ever have sound in there dreams?

I had four good ones last night had a pen next to my bedside and didn't write them down because I liked the state of were I was and to turn on the light would of who knows

Strange mares

Strange being in an apartment in the sky. A apartment I'm only familar with the furniture, never mine but of grandmother she not being in the dream but my dad. I woke to the turbulant wind outside as if things were shifting in the wind and realized the building was swaying way way to far It felt as if I was staggering to the window and upon looking out there was sheets of snow.

That was one the other strange mare was

I was standing on a beach and there were only shards of mirrors with little space between them for the beach

I forgot two and they were dooooosys and remember little of all but my mind processed it in some way towards a better understanding towards life. Ok, I waffled on a bit

Very neat topic!

This is actually a really cool topic because I was just thinking we should have one like this:D Personally my dreams are very messed up lol. They rarely ever make any sense- but I usually always remember them. I have repeating dreams too- probably about three or so. I think the thing with repeating dreams could be that perhaps there is something that is bothering us, or something that comes up in everyday life when we are awake- and is some way or another that is reflected in these dreams. I speculate that if the issue or whatever it is, is actually still happening in our lives that it may cause the dreams to keep happening- if you follow the theory that the dreams are reflecting that issue that is occuring while we are awake. Particularily with reoccuring dreams that are not overly pleasant, I think that it is possibly a reflection of a problem we are facing while we are awake that may be subconciously bothering us, and thus if unresolved, is continuously reflected- via reaccurring dreams. However, I am in no ways an expert- this is just complete speculation on my part:) Does anyone else talk or mumble incoherently in their sleep? lol. I do that one pretty often. Lol!:D
