I am an Atheist, so do not own nor will ever own any of those books. I do believe some & only some of the stories in those type of books have a smidge of truth to them. Priests & others embelished a lot of the stories in order to scare people into submission or to be good. So i have heard, & i believe it myself. It happens all the time actually, even in our daily lives. Just like rumors & any story passed down & passed down some more. It has also been found that a lot of writers or things in the past, were either under the influence of something, a lot of times not voluntary or any knowledge of it. Or with mental problems, or other illness. I also think that some stuff people wrote just because they had a very vivid imagination, like our writers today, except there were no such things as Sci-Fi/Fantacy sections. They did not catagorize by genre etc back then, not sure when that began. I watch a lot of History, & Science channel LOL.

Can I share a bit?
Even though I'm not a practicing religious person (last time I was in church I went with a girlfriend and her family. As soon as someone got up and started screaming with their tongue out and eyes bulging, people rushing over to stare into the man's drooling face, I ran for the exits and never looked back...at church or the girl), I loved reading the Bible. I enjoy most of the stories and I contemplate these as actual history with symbolism and the dialogue of those days. I find it inspiring, horrifying, gratifying and complex.
I say read everything, listen to everyone, drink it in like a desert survivor, but not too fast. You'll throw up
