What a load of symbolism in that picture!

The horns, or the Evil Eye, that Ronnie started as a symbol in metal, don't represent him, no.

Lemme see if I can find the official story.

Here, this is from Tapio's Dio Page. Tapio knows Ronnie pretty well, and you can find his name in the thanks section of some of Ronnie's CDs, so I take it he should know.

"Ronnie apparently brought the raised index and little finger hand sign to metal world in 1980. It was quickly adopted by the metal bands in '80s and somewhat identified as "heavy metal sign".

However, it has much older meaning too. In the ancient Egypt, the sign was called the evil eye sign. It was used to put a spell on someone, to cast "an evil eye". Many of the pharaos buried in the pyramids had sculptures guarding them, those sculptures often showed the evil eye sign to curse the grave robbers and to guard the pharao.

The sign has also many other meanings, depending on the culture where it is shown. It is called for example The Horned Hand by some religious groups. Some satanists also use it in their rituals.

This page is maintained by Tapio Keih?nen, E-mail: dio@iki.fi."

I should add, I remember reading in some interview he grew up seeing his grandmother use it. It was meant to keep evil away.

Recently picked up an ES-335 clone (ever since Alex in the 70's I've loved that style of guitar). It has now been upgraded with new pickups (Carvin, of course) and it looks sweet. :)

Just like any other electric. It has very little sound unplugged since it's not hollow. Like the ES-335, it has a solid block running through the center, but the sides are hollow to add a little of that deeper resonant tone.

Some of it. Not too much.

Truth is, I tried to learn RUsh songs when I was a kid, but haven't put much effort into it in the last 15 years or so. I learned a lot of 2112, The Trees, Panacea, Different Strings, Lakeside Park, and a little bit of other stuff when I was young.

But I've found that with bands that I really really love, if I learn their material it takes a little bit of the magic out of it for me. I'd rather just listen. Well, that and the fact that Alex is an insane guitarist and I just can't keep up with him! ;)

Cool Elfie, no disrespect intended. I learned bass through Hemispheres, that was a @##?* chore.
I have always been choosy about basses personally. Wals are my Aston Martin....Overwaters and Musicmans are sweet after that.
I think you understand :-)

I do. It's a wonderful thing when one finds the brand that really speaks to him. That's why I'm Carvin-crazy! :-D
