A significant event in world history
A significant event in world history happened this week in Northern Ireland as a new power sharing era has begun.
" Northern Ireland's Protestant and Roman Catholic leaders, arch-foes during decades of bloodshed, launched a new power-sharing government in the British province on Tuesday aiming to put a final end to violence."
In recognition of the event MOYA BRENNAN (THE first lady in Celtic music) posted her version of PEACE HAS BROKEN OUT on her MYSPACE page. This song written by our own Bob Halligan Jr and was record by CEILI RAIN for the 1st Ceili Rain recorded (say-KAY-lee"). To listen to Moya's version click on her profile in our Top friends list and drop her a comment about it if you like it.

Freaky how that can happen in an instant. I've been over that bridge 20 times going to Ocean City (Met priest and Maiden in Salisbury one night) and always wondered about the horror of crashing on that forever-long bridge. Looks like those folks got to enjoy the beautiful view for quite some time this day.

Then, the walls were only a foot or so high, and there was no stopping a vehicle from going over. I didn't mind it. After New River Gorge Bridge in WV, the Bay Bridge is a skate ramp (as far as height goes).
Cool you got to meet Priest and The Irons too!
I met Halford as he screamed over my steak dinner at Louie's Rock City waaaay back in the day. Nice.

Rev. Jerry Falwell dead at 73
The Rev. Jerry Falwell has died, a Liberty University executive said Tuesday. He was 73. Earlier today, Ron Godwin, the executive vice president of Falwell's Liberty University, had said Falwell was found unresponsive around 10:45 a.m. and taken to Lynchburg General Hospital. Godwin said he was not sure what caused the collapse, but said Falwell had "a history of heart challenges."
My favorite Falwell quotes;
"If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being."
"AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals."
"Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them."
"I do not believe the homosexual community deserves minority status. One's misbehavior does not qualify him or her for minority status. Blacks, Hispanics, women, etc., are God-ordained minorities who do indeed deserve minority status."
"I had a student ask me, "Could the savior you believe in save Osama bin Laden?" Of course, we know the blood of Jesus Christ can save him, and then he must be executed."

No surprises there. America was all excited about the new congress in January and now their approval has plummeted below the president's.Congress Approval Down to 29%;
Bush Approval Steady at 33%
Both ratings are slightly lower than 2007 averages

Sad because of the waste of a good Reuben sandwich?Supposedly found him in his office after lunch....That's sad.
I have a strong feeling he didn't go "UP", if you know what I mean.
The horrible things he said all of his life about human beings is a sad thing.
To me, the fact that someone like this had a very visible platform for so many years to spew his venom is the saddest thing of all.

I read about this. Once again it brings up hope for that region--let's not see it dashed. I'm almost afraid to hope...but I will.awip2062 wrote:Here's today's blog from Ceili Rain (a band H knows)

Yes darling, but you can't say that opinion polls don't matter (as when I posted months ago about Georgie) and give them any weight nowElfDude wrote:No surprises there. BBO, I laughed at the quotes you put up at first because I thought it was a joke. But then I remembered what a hateful, ignorant person this was and I realized he was capable of saying such stupid things.Big Blue Owl wrote:Sad because of the waste of a good Reuben sandwich?Supposedly found him in his office after lunch....That's sad.

Wherever he is now, as my Mom says, I hope he "gets" it now. (Gets the concept of life and tolerance in the teachings of the One he supposedly followed, not gets a whuppin' )

True that he was "out there", but he was one of the only counters we had against the Sharpton/Jackson mob.Big Blue Owl wrote:Sad because of the waste of a good Reuben sandwich?Supposedly found him in his office after lunch....That's sad.

Not good enough, buddy. All of the same ilk. More people would gladly believe in God if there weren't idiots like this fouling the good name of Christ.CygnusX1 wrote:True that he was "out there", but he was one of the only counters we had against the Sharpton/Jackson mob.Big Blue Owl wrote:Sad because of the waste of a good Reuben sandwich?Supposedly found him in his office after lunch....That's sad.

But I dig what you're sayin

I know he was a big leader, and I don't rejoice that he is dead, but...
Well, I used to have a button that said, "The moral majority is neither."
I have to agree with those who can't reconcile what he claimed to believe (the Bible) and what he said about people. It was really hard to see love in him.
